Useful Productions CIC is a small but imaginative creative company based in London, built around a simple idea: interesting things happen when art, curiosity, and a sense of usefulness come together.
Founded in 2017, Useful Productions works across artistic creation, media, and cultural projects—almost always with a generous helping of food. As a Community Interest Company (CIC), the organisation exists not only to produce creative work, but to do so in ways that benefit the wider community. That means experimenting with ideas, supporting creative collaboration, and making projects that aim to inform, entertain, and spark conversation.
Our work sits at the intersection of storytelling, visual media, and cultural exploration. Many projects touch on themes of migration, movement, and cultural exchange—reflecting the ways people, stories, and ideas travel across borders and generations. These themes often emerge naturally, shaping work that explores identity, belonging, and the connections between cultures.
Useful Productions was founded by Matilda Velevitch, a creative producer with a background in events, storytelling, and event management. She created the company as a platform for projects that combine imagination with purpose—work that explores ideas, shares knowledge, and connects with audiences in meaningful ways.
Her perspective is shaped by a culturally mixed background( and constantly moving about). “Useful” was her grandmother’s highest form of praise. Having spent 50 years in the film industry, being useful on set, and at home was shorthand for something that simply worked.
That spirit continues to guide the company today: creative work should not only be interesting, but genuinely useful—to audiences, collaborators, and the wider cultural conversation.
